A Perfect Leawood Home Finally Gets a New Kitchen & Master Bath
When these Leawood, KS homeowners combined two households in 2004, he was a single guy, and she had her whole household with her four daughters. So, they had doubled everything. He liked to cook and brought all of his pots and pans and she also had her pots and pans. They wanted to remodel the kitchen immediately, yet when they first moved in, the most pressing need was to make space for everyone. So, adding rooms over the garage for the kids became the first priority.
And then they just got busy.
While they said that the kitchen was going to be the very first project. It sat on the back-burner. A broken refrigerator was the impetus to get the kitchen remodel underway … finally.
“We knew that we didn’t want a refrigerator that wouldn’t fit into the design that we had been thinking about for a possible remodel. So that’s what started the whole process … the broken refrigerator.”
“We liked the organization that Country Club Builders offered. They make sure that everything needed to complete the project is delivered before the new project starts. It was nice not to be delayed by cabinets or time or whatever, dragging out the construction process. They also offer a 5-year warranty on their installations.”
The original kitchen layout was unusual. The placement of the cabinets and the window left very little counter space. And obviously, cabinet space would have been challenging as well. The new design is very sleek, with a mid-century modern influence.
Everything has a place. The entire kitchen was brought up to date to include all new cabinets, backsplash, lighting, counters, and appliances. Special features such as a drawer for pots and pans includes a rack for lids. The whole room fits together and flows effortlessly into the adjacent sitting room.
“That’s one of the reasons why we went with the expertise of Lisa Otterness, CKD. She was familiar with all the little goodies … details that we would definitely have missed out on.”
Now that they were comfortable with the results of the fabulous kitchen remodel, they knew that it was time to take on the master bath and closets.
The homeowners wanted to continue the mid-century modern influence into the master bath and settled quickly on a large format tile that set the tone for the entire area. The zero-entry shower with a natural stone floating bench is clean and elegant, yet understated.
Redesigning the master bath space offered the chance to combine two walk-in closets into one more efficient closet. Automated wardrobe lifts takes advantage of the high ceiling space that would otherwise be relegated to hard-to-reach shelving. This is the perfect way to keep out-of-season and rarely worn clothes accessible.
The homeowners are thrilled with the results of their remodeling projects. The design and finishes are exactly what they had hoped for, and they love the ability to be organized! They have always loved the location and the overall design of the home … and now it is truly perfect.
